I worked at the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Indianapolis for a year and a half. I was the only one who didn't go out afterwards and drink with the staff. Needless to say the other staff noticed and it lead to some great conversations, but hearing their stories of brokenness was heartbreaking and many a night I would come home crying because I just wanted them to know God's love and healing. There was a time when I was having a hard time feeling close to God and subsequently, work became harder because I was trying to be there for my friends in my own strength. Finally, one night I came home and wrote this song in about 5 minutes. It's simple because it was just my thoughts and prayers at that moment in life. It's still a prayer that I sing often.
